Here are some of the questions that we have received and our answers to them.
| Q: | What is the Young Marines Program? |
| A: | The program is part of the Department of Defense's drug demand reduction program for the U.S. Marine Corps. |
| Q: | Then do the youth receive drug education? |
| A: | They receive a minimum of 3 hours per quarter, or 1 hour every month. |
| Q: | Is the program just for boys? |
| A: | No, we are for both boys and girls. |
| Q: | How old does my child have to be to join? |
| A: | Youth ages 8 years old through the completion of high school can join the program. |
| Q: | Is the program a recruiting tool for the Marine Corps or any other branch of the military? |
| A: | No; however, the Marine Corps does have a standing order that states, "If a Young Marine makes it to the rank of Young Marine Sergeant, and should decide to join the Marine Corps, then that Young Marine can join the Corps as a Private First Class (E2)." |
| Q: | Is the Young Marines for kids that have been in trouble? |
| A: | No! The youth are just like those that join the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or any Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (JROTC.) They just want to challenge themselves and to rise to a higher standard. |
| Q: | Do you just do things during the school year? |
| A: | No, we meet year-round. |
| Q: | Do you teach combat? |
| A: | No! We do not teach individual combat tactics. However, we do teach ceremonial maneuvers such as, color guard, close order drill. |
| Q: | What are some of the other activities that the Young Marines do? |
| A: | We go camping, march in parades, do community service activities, and much more. |
| Q: | Do you teach the kids anything else? |
| A: | Yes, we teach the Marine Corps' 14 Leadership Traits (i.e. Integrity, Dependability, Justice, etc.), Land Navigation, good citizenship and much much more. |
| Q: | When do you meet? |
| A: | Our regular drills are conducted every other weekend. We maintain an Unit Calendar on our Main Page |
